Dragon Nation,

It’s hard to believe we are in the last week of October and that we are about to turn the page into November. Before you know it, the Holidays will be upon us and the 1st semester will be in the books. The first twelve weeks of school have been fantastic, and we are seeing tremendous progress from all students. It’s very important for parents/guardians to check the parent portal on a regular basis to ensure all students are staying on track with grades and attendance. The 2nd six weeks will conclude on November 3rd and first semester grades will be final on December 17th. We will continue to use our “Acceleration” period to assist and support any/all students who need any additional help. Finally, after the 1st of the year, we are looking to start several after school programs to help prepare students for the ACT and State Accountability testing that takes place in the Spring. Do not hesitate to call your student’s Academy Counselor or Academy Principal to ask questions or request additional support.

The Jefferson County Board of Education recently passed the “Test to Play” policy. This new policy will require all students to get a weekly Covid screening to participate in any extracurricular activity. Students must get this test every week even if they are vaccinated. The process will start the week of November 1st. Parent consent forms must be filled out in order to test any student. You can access the parent consent form in the JCPS Parent Portal under the Forms Tab. We also will have hard copies of the form at the front desk in the Main Office of the school. You can direct any Test to Play questions to Mr. Michael Slider, Academy Principal. (michael.slider@jefferson.kyschools.us)

I am including a link with the latest guidance from JCPS. I am also including this link with a question and answer document for parents/guardians from the district.

On Friday November 5th, we will be holding a Clubs/Athletics Fair during the school day in the Large Gym at Doss High School. Every student will be able to see each club/sport we offer at Doss and be able to ask questions of Coaches/Sponsors. Also, students will be able to sign up and start participating immediately. This school year, I have put an emphasis on trying to get more students involved in extracurricular activities. I hope this fair will get more students participating. Feel free to email our Athletic Director, Daniel McCreedy (danny.mccreedy@jefferson.kyschools.us) with any sport/club related questions.

Please make sure to check our website: www.dosshighschool.com for up-to-date information regarding all school announcements and events. I am very excited about the work we continue to do each day at Doss. I am proud to work with such a dedicated and committed staff, and I believe the work we are doing will result in great things for this high school. Please do not hesitate to contact the school with any questions. Go Dragons!!!

Sincerely,

Todd C. Stockwell, Principal Twitter: @doss_principal todd.stockwell@jefferson.kyschools.us
