A Message From Our Principal

Dragon Nation,

I cannot believe it is 2024! This year has brought us warmer than normal weather, much colder weather, rain, snow, and very little sunshine. We made it through our first NTI days due to weather and not Covid, which I can appreciate so we have a more solid grasp on when the last day of school will be.

We started a new semester, so please look for your student’s grades for the first semester. We hope kids are confident they showed their best effort and their grades reflect what they can do. Each new semester is a different opportunity to excel, learn new skills, and showcase student learning.

We have administered two rounds of CERT testing so students should have some information on how they are progressing towards their ACT goals. Even if a student does not think college is in their future plans, situations change so knowing the standards we are confident on, the ones we need to improve, and the ones that need a lot of work is essential to move us forward as learners.

Please remind students of the importance of being in class on time. There are five minutes between each class, which is plenty of time to get to their destination. Teachers start instruction right away, and we want every student there and ready to learn. We sweep students who are tardy into hall sweep to quickly return them to class once they have completed a short academic task. Timeliness is a learned skill

and habit that will benefit students in the future. We all know that one person who is never on time and how frustrating that can be. There is no more important of a place to be for students than in their assigned class. Learning prepares kids to be productive, happy, global citizens which is our vision. I want kids to have the skills to make their own choices for their futures.

Stay engaged as we start the second half of our school year. Every new day is a new opportunity. Make the best of them!

Best regards,
Dr. Julie Chancellor, Executive Principal
